Good communication skills are valuable in all aspects of life. Part of learning this essential skill is understanding our own unique communication style as well as that of others.

With the Human Communication series, students have the opportunity to analyze their own communication behaviors and those of others, as they learn about and practice skills in intrapersonal communication, interpersonal communication, problem solving in small groups and public speaking.

Use this effective series as a classroom supplement or a comprehensive Telecourse. Based on the Pearson/Nelson text, An Introduction to Human Communication, this dynamic series describes and illustrates a wide variety of speech communication concepts. The lessons combine the guidance of speech professionals with examples of famous historical speakers, contemporary business speakers, and student speeches within the scope of education, the arts and government.

The series is hosted by Hubert Brown, faculty member from Syracuse University and co-hosted by guests from colleges and universities across the United States. T. Marni Vos, teacher, lecturer and comedian, brings her lively commentary to many of the lessons to assist students in gaining confidence and experience in successful public speaking. Angela Nesta, Librarian at Cuyamaca College made the following comment about the quality of the closed captioning on the episodes. "I also want to commend your company on the fine way the programs on these DVDs were closed caption. More than just adding subtitles of people conversations, the closed captioning was all encompassing.
•when the narrator was off screen, the closed caption was in italics indicating a narration was occurring along with a name of the narrator
•when a person was introduced, the closed caption appeared over the name and title of the interviewee
•also there was description of non-verbal action, like music notes for music playing

The closed captioning done on your DVDs followed the 2011 California Community College Chancellor’s Distance Education Accessibility Guidelines (http://www.htctu.net/dlguidelines/2011%20Distance%20Education%20Accessibility%20Guidelines%20FINAL.pdf) which specify that subtitles are not considered the same as closed captioning."
