Math in the Middle provides an integrated approach to enriching middle-school math. Featuring pre-algebra concepts, the five thematic units engage students in math learning. Real-world examples enhance a problem-based approach to middle-school math.
In Math in the Middle...of Nature each episode includes a video fieldtrip to help students see real life applications of the many math concepts featured in the series. Examples include a community ecologist studying population distribution on the coast of Oregon, watching spotted owls as they feed their young, and collecting data on lizards in the desert of Southern New Mexico.
Mathematics concepts: Magnification, volume/area/length, fractions, graphing, estimation, probability, statistics, reasoning, percentages and proportions, volume, exponents, patterns, geometry, scaling, problem-solving.
